Who can join the Auxiliary?
Eligibility is quite simple. Membership is open to female veterans and to
the mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, granddaughters or great-granddaughters of American Legion members or deceased veterans who
served in the Armed Forces during World Wars I and II, the Korean War,
the Vietnam War, Grenada, Panama, and/or Lebanon conflicts, and the
Persian Gulf War. Descendants of veterans (great-granddaughters, etc.)
often are presented with Junior memberships at birth or during childhood
through the generosity of an older relative and Auxiliary member.
Many of these young women continue their membership
as Senior members after they reach age 18.

MEMBERSHIP PLANS OF ACTION 2009-2010
The objective of the
American Legion Auxiliary Membership is to increase membership and our
volunteer base through program partnership and innovative recruiting, while
retaining current members and enhancing the value of membership.
South Carolina’s
plan of action for membership has three objectives:
RETAIN….RECRUIT….EDUCATE
1.
OBJECTIVE:
RETAIN: To
increase membership in each Unit by one member in order to meet National
goal of 5002 and our Department goal of 5102.
2.
OBJECTIVE:
RECRUIT: To work
with the American Legion Department of South Carolina to Charter Units
within Posts that have no Auxiliary Unit.
3.
OBJECTIVE:
To educate Unit
Membership Chairman on their responsibilities.
Each
Unit is encouraged to use their skills, activities, and enthusiasm to
achieve their membership goals. Think “Outside of the Box”. Use e-mail,
Facebook, Twitter and Word of Mouth to get the message of our Organization
out to the community. Bring back long lost members; let them know they are
missed. Pair the young and mature members together; they can share knowledge
of their strengths and hopes.
The National
American Legion Auxiliary will be giving recruiting awards:
Recruit
3 Awards will be given for recruiting 3 junior or senior
members.
Silver
Brigade Awards will be given for recruiting 25 senior members.
Unit
Membership Merit Awards will be given for the best narrative.
The Department of South
Carolina will be giving the following awards
